BELT COLOURS - maroon, buff and black

The East Surrey stable belt was 63mm wide, with two brown leather fixing straps - 18mm wide each, with two buckles. The colours, from top to bottom, were: maroon 26mm wide, buff 11mm wide, black 26mm wide.

With thanks to the Queen's Royal Surrey Regiment Museum

I served with the East Surrey Regiment 1957/58 and all ranks wore a stable belt. Both at the depot and with the battalion. It was during my National Service that I transferred to the Queens Own Royal West Kent Regiment and it was only the Officers who wore them whereas in The East Surrey Regiment they were worn by all ranks.

        With thanks to Tony Wells
